If you could change 3 things in World of Tanks

109

Hello,

Been very quiet today, its was a weird day and things didn’t went as planned, dismounted my PC to add better hardware and was taken to the hospital (both unrelated).

Ectar, a EU EN Community Manager has opened a topic in the EU forums to gather feedback from you, he wants to know, If you could change 3 things in World of Tanks, what would they be?

Let me quote his words:

“Hello guys,

Got an interesting topic I’d like to bring up with you all and hope to get some constructive feedback.  Quite simply If you could change 3 things in World of Tanks, what would they be and most importantly, why/how?

Before answering this question I need to put down some ground rules for answers.

  • No one word reasons. Please expand on your thoughts without answers like “Because I don’t like it” or “because it’s bad”.
  • No unrealistic suggestions, please think of things like the core gameplay, UI and experience (For example: Removing arty or any other class of vehicle is unrealistic and not going to happen).

Your feedback could be related to any aspect of the game, such as Clan Wars, eSports, Matchmaking, Map design, UI and Chat, Battle Mechanics etc etc.  Again please try to keep your suggestions realistic and think of the bigger picture and how it would effect the game in general.  Things like “Make tier 9 tanks cheaper” just because you’re on tier 8 at the moment isn’t really the kind of ideas/suggestions we’re looking for (as that’s a very specific individual concern).

A good example would be:

Suggestion: – I’d like to see the ability to be create troll platoons disabled, and make it so platoons can only be made within the battle tier of the platoon leader (Like with World of Tanks Console).

Why: – As the system currently stands, it always puts the team with the troll platoon at a disadvantage. The benefit of having an extra tier over the enemy isn’t a balance for being essentially a tank down from the very start. There is never a situation where I can think to myself “I’m glad that tier 10 in my team brought his tier 3 platoon mate”.  It doesn’t benefit the game in any way and it causes frustration for the rest of the team who experience this.

I look forward to seeing your suggestions, this thread will remain open for about 2 to 3 weeks. “

I posted this on the forum but figured I may as well post it here too to get some opinions on it:

    Ok I got a few:

    1) Suggestion: Set up a system to verify mods

How it works – I personally find what mods are acceptable and what aren’t to be vague at best. I know that cheating via modding is quite easy so to counter this why not set up a mod verification system where the mod maker has to register the mod with a WoT official (a member of support or something) in order for it to be considered a legal mod. Then you add something to the client that checks your mods for a verification code . If none is found the user gets a warning about the mod/s in question and if the message is continuously ignored over X number of games more strict action is taken.

Why – These cheat mods are ruining the experience for players who want to legitimately play the game while also generating toxicity ingame e.g someone playing fairly gets blamed and reported for pulling off a lucky shot. This would also have the side effect of making legit mods easier to find less of a risk to players who may want to mod but don’t want to take the risk of installing a dodgy mod.

Side-note – I’ve noticed alot of toxicity around XVM users in particular. Quite often I’ve gotten into a game and someone suicides/gone afk based on the %winrate of his team. XVM is a great mod but I feel it would be much more valuable to a player if it only tracked his/her own stats thus removing that toxic element from the game.

    2) Suggestion: Skill based mm

Why – Seal clubbing/Stat padding is a very real thing in WoT at the moment and happens at all tiers of gameplay and not just at the low ones. You often see good players simply wreck havoc in game. Sure it’s great fun for the skilled player but not much fun for anyone else. Now I understand that there are simply not enough players at certain skill levels to make this completely viable but you could at least implement some general matchmaking restrictions to stop one team from getting mostly low rated players and the the other getting mostly high rated ones which usually ends in a one-sided slaughter. If that means waiting slightly longer in a mm queue then so be it!

    3) Suggestion: Limited mm for tanks until a key component has been unlocked (Gun/engine depending on vehicle class)

Why – With some exceptions, being bottom tier in a stock tank is awful. It’s not fun running to tanks that you simply can’t do anything to (gold ammo or not) because your tank hasn’t being fully upgraded and lacks the pen or mobility to be effective.

Is there a spot for NA players to leave feedback? I don’t have the required 50 battles on the EU server to comment.

Anyways – the big three important ones:
    1. Gold rounds, seriously they are the source for half of my frustrations in this game. Something like Armored Warfares ammo selection would be so much better. Have 3 rounds, AP, HEAT/APCR, and HE. AP would have the highest pen, lowest damage, the old “gold” rounds would have medium pen, medium damage, and HE like always, lowest pen with the highest damage. And by “highest pen” on AP I don’t mean where gold rounds are currently, I mean maybe a little higher than they are now.

Its just super frustrating to be out playing someone and kicking but only to have them just switch to gold rounds and kill you.

    2. Arty, Arty is the other reason for rage quitting the game for me. Arty makes me hide behind a rock and not want to come out. Again, something similar to AW’s arty would be just fine. Low damage, faster aim-time and higher accuracy (though maybe not quite the splash radius, it can be challenging to “defend” yourself from that sometimes).

    3. No XVM, I’m not the best player on the team by any means, but I’m good enough that I get focused from time to time, and that gets pretty old pretty fast. It was mentioned earlier that having client modding disabled (as it currently is) and instead putting in a Mod-Store ingame. That could help with cheats and stuff. I may be alone on this but I really don’t like getting focused into the ground (usually by arty, addressing my arty complaint may fix this issue indirectly).

    Other:
    1. Add PVE!! I LOVE PvE! Its a nice break to just get away from the frustrations of being nuked by arty or golded by players to death.

1 – Yes, get rid of gold and just introduce a $30 a month subscription like WOW. If you dont like how WG cover there costs then another method is needed.

3 – Have you considered your the only one being spotted in an arty zone? So many people think they are being focused becasue they think they are good. Arty shoot at anything that is actively spotted lol

This arty shoots at the dumbest first. . Sitting in the open and not moving just begs some love from an arty. If you’re being focused, don’t blame xvm, maybe consider that you’re doing it wrong. It takes an arty minimum 15 second to retarget and zoom up. More than enough time for your 6th sense to activate and you get unhidden again. Learn where arty play from and pick your battleground with that in mind

    1) Rework artillery to be like AW artillery. I feel like that kind of gameplay would contribute to the overall game. Limit to number of artillerys per game, about 2.
    2) Buff some one the tanks that have suffered from power creep(Example E 50M). Chinese mediums need a buff to gun depression and better soft stats to mobility and gun handling by 10-15%. T8-T10 Chinese heavies need those buffs by maybe about 5-10%.
    3) Create more maps in real cities and rural areas. Make some corridor maps and some more open maps. The maps have to be balanced like Himmlesdorf. Maps that have areas with ridges and flat planes. On each maps areas with cover. If a the map is a city one, create an open area. And vice a versa for open countryside maps.

The Chinese Mediums need buffing but the heavies don’t at all, apart from maybe the 113 slightly. The WZ-111-1-4 is arguably in the top 3 tier 9 heavies in the game. the 110 is a solid choice, It isn’t quite IS-3 now that the IS-3 is stupidly broken but buffing it to an IS-3 standard isn’t fixing the issue at all. The 133 could perhaps stop having fuel tanks at the front. It is a serious weakness that the Germans used to have and had removed.

    • Rapid arty is annoying. What we need is to add risk to arty. It can’t just lob shells from the back and have no consequence.

    1. Accessibility to ALL tanks: we should have access to all the tank just playing random battles. Not everyone has the “regular” time to commit to a CW campaign on a daily basis. Most of the tanks should be obtainable by playing random battles. One idea I have is to have a high xp required for unlock on a tier 10 tank in order to get the CW reward tanks and mission tanks. I am not saying to get rid of the missions, but have a secondary more “grindy” option for it.
    2. Artillery is a major issue. The RNG involved with playing artillery makes it unskillful to play. Some artillery players are better than others, but any game is still heavily relying on RNG. I do not think AW system is the solution for artillery nor are the “light up” and “smoke” rounds. I think artillery should be more accurate, with a significant slower ROF, some better mobility and no more of that “artillery sight mod” allowed.
    3. Certain tanks are currently “underpowered”, such as the E50M, the softer turretless TDs (268, 263, Foch 155). Balancing these tanks to make them enjoyable is very important.

Honestly i hate artillery more than anything i actually haven’t played WOT in a year because i quit playing that garbage… refuse to throw any more money at WG until they fix the fatal errors in basic gameplay ( cam, gold rounds, arty mechanics)…

BUT my BIGGEST LARGEST COMPLAINT…. the nerf…. ohhh hello the damn nerf and “rebalances”… first of all wargaming can’t rebalance a tank to save their lives “rebalance” usually means you wasted your time getting to tier 10 because the tank will be basically useless after the nerf… (foch 155, fv 183, obj 268)… i was not an advocate for 10 v 10 BIG TDS on each team… but instead of doing the logical thing like… “ohh hey, lets put a cap on how many TDs can be on a side” “ohh also platoons can’t be 3 players in top tier tank destroyers” but no instead of these logical decisions that wouldn’t of taken the fun out of the game they decided to kill my favorite tank, and end one of everyones favorite tanks.

Ok so maybe your not a TD person, and the nerf didn’t effect you. Or you were like me and had hope and began playing other classes. I took up medium tanks with a passion, and enjoyed my limited heavy tanks, but because i liked speed my favorite heavy was the E5… too bad the E5 has a huge turret that wargaming decided needed to have the easiest weak spot to hit in the game. Ok so your E5 is down… you can’t play TDs or your favorite heavy… ok so you love medium tanks now… loved loved loved my STB 1 and Obj 140… literally fell in love with these tanks… my ability to quickly pull up and shoot and fire on the move and to be constantly moving and doing good dmg…. THEN WARGAMING DECIDES TO GO AT IT AGAIN…. because they nerved all the other fucking tanks into the ground mediums began to become better because they couldn’t be kept in check by anything other than that horse shit arty… so they gave the old accuracy nerf… basically making my STB (new favorite tank) unplayable from distance… my obj 140 had a much harder time hitting weak spots and firing on the move… THIS COMPANY CAN SUCK IT… this is why i play Armored warfare.. fuck you wargaming.. i will not spend time nor money reaching another tier 10 just for you to suck the noobs dicks and nerf the shit out of a tank just because some idiot doesn’t understand the weaknesses of their adversaries.

    DONE.. *drops mic*

    Usefulness of LT’s
I feel currently that there is little to no use for light tanks in game as they often provide no benefit to a team that cannot be provided by a medium of the same tier or higher and simply adding LT’s with bigger guns won’t solve the issue (I’m looking at you 132 and T-54LW) adding LT’s like this doesn’t solve the problem it just adds a lightly armoured medium line to a tech tree which again makes me feel that LT’s are obsolete if LT’s become more medium like why have the LT class of vehicle at all.
Ways I have thought about how to improve LT game play

    1 View range
Other than a few exceptions such as the Patton’s and maybe Bat Chat. T8 LT’s should have the highest view range in the game. Simply reducing only TD view range is not enough view range scales should be as follows (ordered from practically 0 to maximum) Arty-TD-HT-MT-LT.

    2 Cammo factors
L’Ts should be able to move and fire without fear of instant retaliation from other enemy tanks, sitting in cammo cover with 100% cammo crew skill and cammo net should make the LT feel like it’s a Reconnaissance vehicle not an easy target for some T-10 medium spamming heat against 40mm armour obviously LT’s with large or powerful guns like T-49 would need to be balanced accordingly so they don’t remain unspotted after a good derp session.

    3 Spotting method of LT’s
The standard method of spotting an enemy vehicle is great for all classes of tanks however there should be bonuses applied to LT’s like a spotting through foliage bonus for example. Only while stationary and up to a maximum of 50% of total view range this should help with spotting TD nests and other juicy targets (could come in form of a perk).
I would like to add that I do play LT’s and would play them more if they were more beneficial to a team.

Can’t believe there are so many people completely oblivious to not putting match making as the primary choice that is currently Brocken and nets a serious rework.

If one thing needed changing and would improve everyone’s quality of games with most impact it would be a successful rework to the match making.

A combination of skill based MM. Not to make teams equally skilled, but to bring it far more in line. And needs with the amount of tanks there currently is match making of 1higher/lower rather than the current 2/2.

  14. Shelby427Arbok says:

    1) Artillery should be reworked in such a way as to eliminate their oneshot potential and replace it with steady, reliable, and consistant damage. In other words, a removal of most of the RNG involved at the cost of alpha damage.
    2) Complete reworking of premium ammunition, such that it is no longer categorically superior to standard rounds. Tiers 9 & 10 should see either the removal of such rounds in their current form, while other tiers should see them reworked into shells which either trade penetration for damage or damage for penetration. Any tanks which would be severely hurt by this change should be rebalanced to compensate, such as offering better penetration with standard ammunition, better soft stats, or simply a further gun upgrade, if feasible.
    3) Maps should offer diverse shapes, structures, and combat environments. The current maps, particularly newer pieces, fail this, instead providing close-range, corridor-brawling points and leaving everything else a killzone. Hiding, sniping, flanking, spotting, bunkering up, and all other roles or abilities have become irrelevant compared to point-blank face-bashing aptitude. Many tanks considered incomparable or OP, tanks like the IS-3, are only seen as such because they are good at the things most of our current maps ask for. Meanwhile, ranged support tanks, scouts, flankers, even super-heavies are forced into fighting terrain where they lack the room to maneuver and operate as they need to, let alone play to their advantages. Diverse terrain that can be worked in several ways equally, as well as multiple flanks or routes of equal importance which can be taken, must be present to prevent one specific style of tank from becoming dominant. In other words, good positions for any sort of tank you can think of, not just point-blank brawlers.

My list, not in any particular order

    1. Artillery Mechanics- My 2 problems with artillery is that you can’t fucking do anything about it, and you don’t know when it’s going to hit. One option is to add the “arty is boutta fuck you in the ass” notification from Armored Warfare, which would basically solve both problems.*

    2. Gold Ammo- I don’t really think this is as big of a problem as some say, but there are definitely some instances where gold can really use some balance, like in derp guns (I’m looking at you, KV-1S). The problem comes about when you have tanks like the Valentine II or the Locust, of which both I have more APCR than regular AP. I used to think, well… they could nerf the damage and have more pen, which would be realistic. Then the problem of tanks like the Locust/Valentine 2 come up. Maybe buff the standard pen

    3. Economy- PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong, but it feels like the WoT economy was changed with 9.14… I make money off tier 10 games with no premium account or personal reserves all of a sudden. But this is just 1 person’s anecdote, so it’s probably way off. But back to where I intended to go originally, H O L Y S H I T W G. Why is it so hard to make credits above tier 7 that doesn’t cost $30+? Don’t even get me started on tier 9s…. it’s almost impossible to grind them without playing a tier 8 premium simultaneously. Once you’re done grinding? Yup that’ll be another 6 FUCKING MILLION CREDITS TO GO UP ONE TIER.

*Another option is a whole rework of the “birds eye view” thing entirely, giving the player a normal artillery sight of some kind(?)

Now that I’m in a ranty mood, here’s some other shit

    4. Russian Bias- This is one of those things that meh or neh, Exhibit A: The tier 8 heavy for the USSR is 54,00 XP to unlock. The tier 8 heavy for the UK is WELL OVER TWICE THAT. WHAT THE SHIT?

    5. Fail Platoons- The problem here isn’t how detrimental the M2 Light is in a tier 9 game, it’s that WG still hasn’t fixed it.

    6. Balance in general- Could be considered a continuation of Russian Bias, but I don’t want to step back to such a horrid place. SU-122-44 (Take the russian equation out of it) has the mobility of an M4 Sherman, 130+mm of effective armor, and higher DPM than a Centurion AX. wut. O-Is exist. before the O-I the KV-2 was considered pretty powerful, so what does WG do? Doubles the armor. Power creep is something that often goes unnoticed, like how your carpet seems nice until you pick up your couch and see the original color. Tanks like the Churchill 3 and Matilda BP used to be considered good, but with the introduction of shit like the O-I Exp, which is twice the speed and with a gun twice as large AND the poor old Sex Pounder can’t penetrate it!

My only complaint to number one is it’s already hard enough to tanks with artillery and while there is skill and calculation involved, it in the end boils down to luck. Artillery is frustrating on either end of the barrel. I hope that when that artillery rebuild comes they fix it for both ends.

1- Chat improvement: the worst thing on Wot in my opinion is the odious behavior that can have some people on the chat. I personally know children that stopped playing after 20 or 30 games when they saw how much insults can be write on the chat during 1 battle. In Europe, the game is classified PEGI 7, that means “The content of this game is suitable for persons aged 7 years and over only” but with the chat it could be easily PEGI16. Yes we can add a filter or disable the chat, but I think we can also made this tool better and a good constructive way to gather players. A solution can be for instance to personally block a player spitting his anger on the chat, and if more than 5 people block it, the player receive a warning and can’t use the chat until the end of the game.

2- Stop removing maps: yes Severogorsk, Port or North West were not perfectly balanced, but they were very fun to play!! Some people like me playing for pleasure and not for a random number called Wn8 love to play on varied maps, seeing different environments and discovering new positions to attack or defend. I don’t care to know the exact place of every stone or every three in one map, but I think “pro players” do not feel safe if they don’t control the entire map. Bring back our loved maps with the Tier distribution system if necessary!!

3- Be clear with mods: I love the new map features (vision circles, enemy tanks phantoms, etc.), and I think that developers should be intractable with some mods (auto-aim, warpack, etc.). They have the control of their game but one more time they don’t want to disturb the pro-players using varied mods because they are those which easily shell out. I think developers could edit a programmable and controlled software in which the most used (and “legal”) mods could be able or disabled. To my mind that’s the last way to make Wot more balanced for all players.
