Anton Pankov Q&A

Good day everyone,

Very brief Q&A from Anton Pankov, taken from questions on various social media:

– Regarding Personal Missions:
If it is decided that arty changes will go into release – there will be changes in the Mission series for artillery, or rather, there will have to be processed.
Restrictions of 3 arty to fight the same battle will impact certain missions. With regard to current revisions Missions, interfaces, etc. They’re being worked on.
-Stretching the lights to Tier 10 won’t have too much impact on their mission series.

* With the tank trade in that was tested on RU, if it is introduced, can there be a one-time action to replace a tank with something from the same nation or class for no or minimal fee? (Not the current 50% of the tank being traded for)

For example, I would gladly have changed:
1. the FCM-50t -> AMX mle 49 / the CDC the AMX
2. IS-6 -> to one of the favorites according to preliminary performance characteristics Object 252U.
3. T26E4 -> T26E5 / M46 Patton KR
4. Potentially 8,8 cm Pak 43 Jagdtiger -> Jagdtiger (H)
– No, not possible.

* Nerf to the Grill? – only in conjunction with a change in the TD Mission-15/ Obj. 260 (where it is necessary to shoot 8k damage), otherwise the task comes down not to skill, but generally random chance
– Due to changes in the Light tanks and potentially in the arty – there will be the reason to seriously reconsider current mission values.

* How many more tanks need to be transferred (DN: No context here, but safe to assume they mean to HD), about 100 or so? Only about two more patches until summer, and it’s not hard to believe that a patch will be 50 tanks, as before there were more than 25-30 did at a time.
– 3.

– Marathons were not taken away forever. They’re looking into different formats

* Explain how it is that during the entire 6 years this game has been around that there isn’t one employee who doesn’t know every nuance of this game? Someone who doesn’t need to go to someone else for questions? Now in 2017 we have all this nonsense about what may or may not be going into the live server from Sandbox and this or that not working.
– We have a Hulk, Slava Makarov, and the team that supports it. Given the magnitude of the project its impossible to keep everything in one head.
About the sandbox, is simple – it is necessary to experiment, and thats how its going to be.

Saving the best for last ?
What are the 2 others tho ? I didnt keep track of things and it also seems like there is more than just 3 left SD, maybe thats just a feeling.

Just looked it up, there’s WAY more tanks not in HD than this guy said. FV215B, STB1, BC, Obj416, VKB, Light Vic, T1E6, Is2, pretty sure there’s enough shitty arty that’s not HD yet so…
I guess 50 is more of a realistic value for this.

Milky’s remodels are amazing, I would use them over the real HD models. T110E5 and T-62A-b.a. are my favs.
But they are so poorly optimized tho (cant blame milky for that, he does an amazing work), I installed all of them and my game went from 80-100fps down to 35-60fps… High quality but too heavy. That actualy made me worried for how well I’ll be able to handle the game once HD maps are here. I’ll try again with no other mods installed to see how they impact the game but for the average user they may not be viable.

My highest dmg ever was 7500 in a WT4. It happened once.
I’m still wondering how long I’ll take to finish TD-15 for Obj260 unless they change it. 8K dmg in one game even for a TD requires either a broken OP tank, either a one in a thousand game where everything goes your way. These requirements are insane, all about luck, not really skill. You can be the most skilled player in the game, if you dont drive the right tank with and against the right teams on the right map, you cant do that much.

Done mine a week ago (grille spamming gold/comsumables… + two friends doing nothing but detracks…)… but also in some tanks like T110E3 and 263 i came very close.

    2. You don’t need a broken or op tank to complete TD-15, it’s difficult on purpose to only allow 1% of the player base access to the Obj 260. If everyone can get the Obj 260 then the tank’s value decreases. It also helps if you get teammates who are in light tanks to spot targets for your td to farm. It’s not to be a solo mission for most players unless you genuinely are the best of the best. Perhaps the fundamental flaw of personal missions is that is greatly skill, luck, and time based and you can’t brute force complete these missions by just playing a lot and only hoping for luck without the skill required to coordinate a sufficient carry.

Totally agree! It’s meant to be very difficult, you have to be creative on how to get it done cause otherwise it’s really pure chance of finding the right map, team and enemies (like all other missions)
I did mine trough platoon mates shooting HE on tracks and playing so bad they didn’t help anyone but me… i know it’s idiot… but this was the way for me.. since i went over 8k dmg only 10ish times over 30k battles done!

      2. I got over 8000 when I completed TD-15 for the T55A, and that was in the FV4005 – generally recognised to be one of the worst TDs at tier 10. I don’t rate my chances too highly for getting that much damage again any time soon, though…

You’ll agree tho that its easier to do it in a tank that can do 2k dmg per shot or has enough dpm to single handedly lock a flank and kill anything that crosses its sight.

183mm guns, or big dpm tanks like Grille/Strv are pretty much the only things that can do this mission while reducing the luck involved, and they still need enough ennemies to fire at.
Other tanks that have worst dpm/alpha need way more luck to achieve the mission.

I know 260 needs to be a reward you earn and not a tank you can just get by playing 10 battles ; but I’d like less luck involved with these missions. Asking for a score over multiple battles instead of a crazy luck in one battle would already solve the problem because it would negate the once-in-a-while battle where only bots and tomatoes play.

I don’t really want to get into a long list of individual tank reviews and how the mission is viable for any tank that fits your playstyle but you seem to believe the british td’s, grille, and strv-103b are better than other td’s and thus imbalanced, ie. overpowered. With that established, my question is if world of tanks is a random battle oriented game or personal mission oriented game.

An extreme example would be if world of warcraft made an extremely difficult mission, should they make a broken character that can complete it easily while letting that same character wreck every other aspect of their game? PvP, statistics, farming, etc. every player must now throw away all their past work to pay for this new character they did not want to keep up with power creep. In this scenario, the problem is with both the broken character and the new mission and not just one or the other. That is assuming the mission was only intended for a small portion of the player audience anyways and only the excluded are complaining they aren’t the 1%. Maybe the difficult mission had achieved the business goal of keeping skilled players invested for long periods of time. If so, then the problem is not with the mission and just a conflict of ethical values. In this way, does it still justify the creation and freedom of terror a broken character might bring on 99% of their game just for 1% of content.

As for luck, luck is mittigated over the course of time. If world of tanks were simply 1 game and “the end”. It would be remarkably random. But since you can play world of tanks over the course of 10 games, 100 games, or even 1000 games. Luck disapears. You,ve had the same chances and matches as any other player and you have had the same bad and good rng with shots. To say there is still too much luck involved would be idolizing yourself as the most unlucky human that was to ever grace the face of the earth. Unfortunatly, I have my doubts you are that remarkably unlucky and most other people should have had the sme chances as the average player. The only thing consistent over 10k or 100k battles is skill. This is a really complicated concept so feel free to let me know if I did a poor job of explaining it. If you ever ask a mathmatician or teacher about limits, bell curves, and probability on the subject of luck in games of getting that one perfect game, I think you’ll make their day.

Two weeks ago I have compled the t55a campaign and immediately started playing TD part for obj. 260. It took me one weekend to get to TD-15. Since then I’ve been playing excusively Grille 15. I’ve been naturally not carying much of winning games, camped more than usual. After almost 350 games I’ve got 56% WR, 3k average DMG, 2.4k WN8, only one gun mark. I had about 6 games where I managed 7.5k+ damage but couldn’t fire that last one shot. I noticed that weekends give you more chance. I feel miserable. It has been my worse time in the game. I’m going to continue till the nerf comes.

  2. Glad to see theres consideration to changing requirements for personal missions. They should be something that casual players can achieve given some effort, not so hard where it causes the casuals to just give up on trying for them

Why? A reward has to be earned, the harder it is, the more it feels satisfying. The casuals have the T28 or even T55A to earn. Object 260 should be hard as it is a T10.

It was one of my most rewarding moments in WoT when that shell of my E3 hit that Leopard and the damage score reached 8196

There is no skill in this game you numbty its all just Chance, Rng thats what boils my blood. (You know rng? the thing that makes you miss a OI with a decent aim while he slowly drunkenly turns around 180* and one shot snap-shots you)

  4. So, it’s confirmed that they will actually update the requirements for the current set of personal missions ?
I was afraid that they were just gonna remove the current ones and create a new set with other tanks, considering how they have been reluctant with fixing anything in this.

I want some speculation, I have not been following the news in every little detail lately, but I know that the major game changes that are comming are tier10 light tanks and the arty rework, which one is more likely to come out first ?

    1. SpeedyCraft51 says:

LTs are pretty much ready, whereas Arty is being pre-super-tested with Sanbox. And as they did the same test 6 months ago already and are still at tier X only, you can expect to see Havok before the arty rework.

So LTs first. Probably even in 9.18.

    1. Yikes, what an oddly large number of games but believable when I looked at the mission requirements, rough man, it will probably be a lot easier since arty will fire more often and you can catch their tracers easier. On top of that, the larger splash should wreck them. I’m betting a lot of tomatoes will try out the artillery changes if they go live so be quick to catch them before they get wiped out. Otherwise, platoon with other artillery to help guarentee artillery in game. I’m betting you’re a lot more experienced at spg’s than me if you already made it to the 260 so i’m sorry if i sounded patronizing. Good luck man!

The best piece of advice that I was given by a friend in game is “Forget trying to complete missions every battle, there are so many factors involving RNG, MM….. etc. I took time out to play World of Warships to get free premium ships. When I returned to tanks I got 3 Object 260 missions with honours within 2 days of playing normally. After this I completed with honours LT4 just last night, I thought that I had blown it when I rammed a low health enemy medium but lucky me I tracked him & gained his damage & life for my mission. After spending time too focussed on missions & not enjoying it I sometimes choose tanks that I enjoy that have no chance of completing the mission… I would rather enjoy the gameplay than suffer enless battles frustrated through not completeing missions. I used to struggle with LT gameplay so I began watching other players when I had been killed & watching replay video’s to improve my gameplay. I am an average player but I still managed to get a T55a…. even completed TD15 with honours.

Good luck to all in game, just keep playing because you are enjoying it

    Regards Wellcold

I am stuck at the MT15 for T28 HTC, came close to 2k a few times. Meaning I needed on more shot on a TD… but the kill was stolen by a fucker that did not actually need the damage or the kill. After asking nicely for help in completing the mission.

    1. Wow, that guy sure was a jerk Mr. Siralexice, especially when he was only playing the game like a normal person instead of staring at his chat log to catch your plea to be fed like a baby bird. I mean, you’re such a nice person after all, saying you asked nicely mid battle and telling us all how he went out of his way to screw you over by stealing your kill. He’s a fucker just like you said.

Anyways, if you want a tip for completing MT-15, platoon with td’s at maybe tier 8. You don’t need a tier 10 to get the damage requirement and it will be easier to catch td’s at a lower tier. If you have the time, credits, and high tier skill, the T-54 at tier 9 is a favorite for doing the mission. Just keep in mind you want a fairly mobile medium like a T-44 or Indien Pz. Whatever you’re most comfortable with preferably. I have seen cromwells to batchats complete the mission. It generally comes down to whether you own enough of a variety of tanks to get a feel for which one is best for each mission.

Good luck with doing 3k damage and trying to cap in a heavy with all the fucking ‘no cap kill all’ cunts in the game.
Every fucking time you get a bastard red line camping cunt who rushes to get the last kill after doing exactly fuck all tge the whole of the game.
