Slava Makarov Q&A

35

Quick Q&A from one of the games initial creators, Slava Makarov:

  • The stats presented for the KV-5 so far are not final, only the first phase of testing.
  • If the changes made to the KV-5 prove successful, then other PMM tanks will get the same treatment.
  • The two vehicles selected for the Warhammer 40k treatment were chosen do to their resemblance to existing tanks from that franchise. It was great experiment for WG in creating premium camo for regular tanks, though do to a lack of time they were not able to complete all of the features with them they wanted.
  • Initially there weren’t meant to be any changes to maps with 1.0 beyond the graphical enhancements, but the map devs used the opportunity to make some changes. Not all of the planned changes were put in however, as that would have meant pushing the patch release back by half a year.
  • Province is pretty unplayable beyond Tier V, and Slava will be bringing it up with the development team.
  • WG admits there are glaring issues with lower tiers, however the huge amount of tanks at those tiers means a lot of work will need to go into them.
  • Frontlines will see some pretty dramatic changes going into the future. As it stands it is poorly optimized and it is hoped that the issues with it can be worked out and reintroduced on a possibly more permanent basis along side other massive changes to the game that the developers are referring to as “WoT 1.5”.
  • The Battle Royal mode was mostly made by the developers on their own time, they were pretty enthusiastic about it. Players seemed to like it as well, so there may be some more experimentation with it later on.
  • Are SPGs toxic? No, but they can certainly be thought over some more.
  • General chat will not be making a comeback. It had 30-40% of the support team locked up. Things have been much easier since it was switched off.
  • There is an extensive plan for a rework to the crews in-game. Specifics such as perks can’t be revealed at this time, however.
  • Murazor still works for WG as a consultant to the balance team, and as Slava’s subordinate.
  • The proposed changes to the ST-I line haven’t been completely abandoned, just put on hold as other issues have taken priority.
  • The idea of a combined European branch also hasn’t been completely abandoned. So far about three ideas for top tiers have been put up, but not much else. Still, it’d be a nice addition in order to put in machines that belong to nations without major tank development.
  • Slava can’t reveal the trade-in list for the KV-5 atm, but it will include some machines that are rarely put up for sale.
  • The Warhammer skin for the KV-2 can sort of be seen as a prototype for the future (planned) 3D customization that WG wants to introduce.
  • Don’t expect the Czech tree to grow too much, as it’s pretty exhausted in terms of potential content.
  • More opportunities to earn bonds will be introduced in the future, as well as things you can potentially spend them on as a reward for active play.

Nice QnA. Watching the KV5 rebalancing with great interest, as what happens there might impact the Super Pershing.

They really shouldn’t be charging gold for trade ins- yes the KV-5 as is now is a weak tank not as strong as say the Defender, but when it was new it WAS a top line tank. The owners (i.e. customers) should not be charged for Wargaming ruining their balance with power creep and matchmaking changes. But Russians don’t understand customer service they just hammer away at all problems.

could say that most guys in the SEA english forums weren’t thrilled with it. some of us (including me) completely hateabhor this BR fad

was not aware G-chat was closed. IIRC SEA still has G-chat. maybe because we’re relatively still civil about it (beyond the usual spammers and guys who grinded so much they forgot the mods are watching)

I don’t know what you mean by SEA still has global chat because it doesn’t at all.
It was removed in the very same patch like all other servers.

About this battle royale mode, I am seriously concerned that too many players who don’t understand teamplay at all and just want to do some “pew pew pew” or players who are so skilled that they hate to carry their potato teams all the time might switch over to this mode almost exclusively, because it literally removes the entire teamplay-factor from WoT.

The thing is, the skilled players might get bored faster with the game because of this mode without noticing it, while the bad players will not learn anything for the classic game modes and keep failing in them, leaving the classic game modes for good.

I don’t know. I just don’t like it. Frontline is still team based. This is not. It’s a different game, actually.

    Couple things
    1) I can’t see my MoE under the barrel cover on my KV2 (R)

    2) Please don’t use stats from “supertest” or anywhere else to determine if a tank is good for public use, any time I’ve been in public tests, it’s just been a boat load of russian kids running around in tier 10 russian god tank meds, full crew skills, full gold ammo, best consumables, improved equipment, slaying and dominating EVERYTHING, using their god armour turrets and post 1.0 maps made for turret peekaboo.

    3) there is a major flaw in supertesting it would seem. JPZE100 gets released nerfed. WTFE100 gets released OP, Batchat, hellcat, type 59, now 268-4 all have been scourges at one time or another, that’s a FAIL. Superpershing was SO FAIL you gave us all a gold refund.

    4) logic is to increase the tier limit for kv5 but reduce side and rear armour?.

What are you talking about? The batchat 25t is pretty much the only tank in the game that’s been perfectly balanced since it’s introduction up to today

funny really ~ how you all fall for the WG PR spin doctor routine, the PR team working overtime to smooth over yet more ‘WG stupid gaffs’ which should never happen in first place
    But hey!

enjoy the new “Vanilla clone T8 KV5 same as same other T8 average HT’s”
when those OP Tier 10’s farm you simply for fun and nice WN8

Its a huge NERF if you cannot see removal of PMM your plain dumb
(never mind the cash you paid for that PMM

      And your point is?

Right now people have to choices:
      1 Keep playing
      2 Stop playing

Whether they believe WG PR or not is completely irrelevant as that has no effect at all. Personally, I couldn’t care less either way.

Or are you the one not seeing it? You keep going and whine against a brick wall. Maybe one day that brick wall will move… (Especially if you keep whining on a third-party website, not directly affiliated with WG, that surely will move mountains…)

At least I can enjoy my game, and when I don’t I just play a different game.

Preferential Match Making was an important selling point when these premium tanks were sold. Unless WG offer full refund of original purchase price, seems unfair to those who paid for these premium tanks that offer selling points no other tanks have.

    2
    • Micle says:

There is a claus everyone who buys a premium agrees to stating that the tank remains property of wargaming, it basically means the tank is on lease to you and they will change it as they feel appropriate, which i personally disagree with such ‘get out of jail free’ tactics employed by the legal team but until wargaming stop adding and rectify what already is, then unfortunately such problems will continuously exist.

But if the vehicle you want for replacement is more expensive then the KV-5 then I think extra charge for the price difference makes sense right?

The support team is still shit, they have not heard of freedom of speech and still ban people for alleged insults. Because if a player is actually cheating, using aimbot and called out for it, it is not actually an insult as it is the truth.
