9.18 Patch Notes

Good day everyone, long post covering the official patch notes for 9.18. Note that  servers will be down April 18 from 01:00 to 07:00 PT (04:00 to 10:00 ET). The Global Map will also be frozen for 24 hours while things get underway.

Specific features of the new matchmaker:

  • Pattern-based matchmaker. The new matchmaker for Random Battles based on predetermined patterns. Pattern is a complex of team characteristics, including the number of vehicles at the top/middle/bottom of the team list, number of Platoons, number of light/medium/heavy tanks, SPGs, and tank destroyers. The teams are always created according to the following rule: number of vehicles at the bottom of the team list should exceed the number of vehicles at the top or middle of the team list. The priority pattern for three-tier battles is 3-5-7; the pattern for two-tier battles is 5-10. One-tier battles are allowed under conditions when other patterns are not possible.
  • Only same-tier Platoons are allowed.
  • The number of SPGs per team should not exceed three vehicles.
  • Enabled the limitation for usage of SPGs in Platoons. Selection of SPGs in the Platoon window is disabled. The limitation affects both Platoons that include only SPGs and Platoons that include other vehicle types.
  • The matchmaker considers the number of light tanks and tank destroyers.
  • The difference in the number of Platoons should not exceed one full Platoon (three players).
  • Preference of placing a player at the top/middle of the team list, if they have already played several battles at the bottom of the team list.
  • Improvements to the map selection mechanics that decreases the chance of playing on the same maps within a game session.

New SPG gameplay:

  • Mechanics of Stunning. Stunning temporary decreases technical characteristics of enemy vehicles within the burst radius, and provides experience and credits, when allies cause damage to the stunned enemies.
    • SPGs can now stun the crew.
    • Stunned vehicles have decreased fire power and mobility.
    • The countdown of stun indicator is displayed to all players who see the stunned vehicle.
    • The stun effect can be removed by using the First Aid Kit, even if none of the crew members is injured.
    • Damage caused to the stunned enemies is rewarded by analogy with the “damage upon spotting” mechanics.
  • Decreased damage of SPG shells
  • Improved accuracy and aiming
  • Decreased reloading time
  • Increased burst radius
  • Overall adjustment of the view range for SPGs
  • All shells without burst radius (Armor-Piercing, AP Composite Rigid, and HEAT shells) were removed from all researchable SPGs
  • Added the stunning effect to the SPGs that feature guns of calibers over 150 mm
  • Alternative “Trajectory View” Artillery Aim. By default, switching between the modes is bound to the G key. This Artillery Aim shows the battlefield at the angle of the shell trajectory allowing players to aim by analogy with the standard Sniper Aim.
  • Target Area Marker shows allies that the SPG player is keeping an eye on that part of the map (T key, be default). Any of the Artillery Aims allows informing the allies (by pressing a particular button) about the point of aiming, selected target, and readiness to fire. This information is displayed in the 3-D scene, on the minimap, and in the battle chat at the same time.

 Reusable Consumables:

  • All (standard and Premium) consumables that need to be activated (First Aid Kit, Repair Kits, Fire Extinguishers) became reusable.
  • After using a consumable, it becomes available again after recharging.
  • Recharge of almost all standard consumables takes 90 seconds; recharge of Premium consumables takes 60 seconds.
  • The Large First Aid Kit and the Small First Aid Kit have the same recharge time (90 seconds).
  • Recharge times are individual for each consumable and do not depend on other equipped consumables.
  • If a consumable is used at least once in a battle, a new one will have to be purchased, just as before.
  • If a consumable is used several times in a battle, the cost remains unchanged.

Vehicles

Tier Changes:

  • New light tanks that logically extend the U.S.S.R., German, U.S., French, and Chinese branches of light tanks to Tier X.
  • Some of the existing light tanks changed their tiers.

General Changes to the Tech Tree

  • New light tanks were introduced into the game—the branches of light tanks are extended to Tier X.
  • In some cases, new vehicles were added; in other cases, the branches were extended by transferring the existing vehicles to higher tiers.

9.18 Patch Notes

  1. SpeedyCraft51 says:

Cant wait for NA to disaprove the patch so everything gets cancelled and both LTs and Arty get back to samdbox testing.

LTs are not ready to be extended to tier X because of how the current balance is. Adding LTs requires a global rebalance of all classes, which WG promised and mever delivered. Also maps are too small and too corridor for LTs to work, and MTs are too good at scouting. They spent all Samdbox and Common Test trying everything to balance LTs and everything failed ; so maybe the issue isnt LTs but EVERYTHING ELSE ?? Like how every single class can do the job of every single other class in some cases ? They had interesting ideas of how to rebalance everything and they decided to give up because some retards weren’t happy with having to move instead of spamming gold at the front of ennemies all day long…

As for arty, I rather see it removed than being nerfed so much. And why the fuck is it not allowed to platoon with regular tank ? I get why they don’t want platoons of arties, but one arty and one or two regular tanks should not only be allowed but also promoted ; their issue is “they work together too much”, WG you are the reason why cancer needs to exist – some of you don’t deserve to live… If platoons working together is an issue maybe you should consider finding another job because you cant fucking understand your own game it seems… The stun thing is uselesw and damages are now so low some heavy tanks have more dangerous HE shells with a third of their reload, five times their HP and 15 times their armor.

    1. Siergen says:

Turning a class in a multi-player game into solo-only does seem foolish. Unless someone at WG is trying to kill off arty by driving away the players first, so there will be fewer arty players to complain when they finally drop arty entirely….

  2. Who needs to listen to their players? WG clearly know best to balance their own own game. Guess I’ll go find another game to sink my time and money into.

Good bye WoT, it was fun while you lasted.

But seriously, worst patch since the attempted 10.0 “Rubicon” shit storm. Well played WG, well played.

  3. Nocomment says:

Well thats my favourite class of tanks F’cked.
So much for the so called new listening Wargaming, Just PR crap with no real intent behind it.

    1. Lasix says:

They listen to the whiners. These crybabies whine about one-shot from arty, getting spotted by Light, got focused by platoons of arty, etc. Arty got the worst from this patch, and lights are rendered useless so medium will remain best.

    1. Because its a nerf to LT scoutability and arty and cmpletetly go against everythinng that people wanted to happen. WG ignored the community and made their own changes while ignoring everyones hate and suggestions towards what they were doing.

People have been calling out for changes to the LT for 2 weeks now and what we got was more ammo on the tier 10 LTs… The French tanks are in need of a buff to the amount of shells in the clip. The US LT are autistic (M41) and the new progression of the line giving me a mild brain tumour, because having the T71, the tank designed to replace the M41, lead into the M41 is so logical is a brilliant idea when there are clearly far better progression options for the line. And then the M41 build into the T54E1 which has NOTHING to do with it? HAHAHAHAHA no, it’s autistic

B-C 155 58 and Obj 261 may as well be removed considering there are some tanks they do no to minimal damage to making them completely useless in top tier games. They were less anoying with the VERY low chance of being one-shot over the constant stun and the fact tthat the T92 can load a premium HE shell and aim at the center of a cap circle and blindd fire reset thanks to 15m blast radius which is most certainly not ok.

I think it’s pretty obvious why people are annoyed with the patch 9.18

      1. A small nerf, down below are the facts on scout-ability at least with tier 10 light tanks. Takes a while to crunch numbers but I could do the same for lower tiers if you want. In general, most french lights are more dedicated scouts. I don’t think that means they are weaker necessarily. But as for a historical overview, I would enjoy seeing wargaming’s documentation on the T71 and Bulldog. Unfortunately, it is more logical for the M41 to progress into the T49 rather than the T71. Some tanks are originally intended to replace a tank but the race to develop it sometimes gets out paced by upgrades to existing tanks which might explain the current tech tree.

Panzerwagan has 10 meters better base view range than the leopard 1. 420 meters is best in game and unmatched in team matches. 15.7% base camo. 12% better stationary and 49% better on the move. 23.25 better power to weight. 10 better top speed.

WZ-132-1 has the same 400 meter view range as the WZ-121. 16% base camo. 7% better stationary 42% better on the move. 2/3 the size of a WZ 120. 21.13 better power to weight. 9 better top speed. 2 degrees better gun depression.

AMX 13 105 has 18.2% base camo. 8% better stationary and 51% better on the move. 9.02 better power to weight. Half the size of the bc. 2 degrees better gun depression.

Sheridan has best in game 420 base view range.14.5% base camo. 75% better stationary and 133% better on the move than the M48. 26.13 better power to weight (that’s like having a batchat push the M48 everywhere). 20 better top speed.

T-100 LT has 19.8% base camo. 15% better camo stationary and 53% better camo on the move. 31.89 better power to weight (300% better than the 140). 17 better top speed. Half the height of the obj 140.

My experience with the BC and 261 on the test server were a bit different, they’re normally accurate enough to do damage with every shot thanks to the splash. The stun certainly does persist a bit if you’re lucky but I’ve had quite a few annoyances with being one shot by those tanks on the live server. I found them a lot more reliable and less frustrating to play. Maybe sessions vary from person to person. But as for reseting cap, it’s very useful for stopping fast caps or forcing a fight. A lot more exciting when players actually need to hunt artillery to win and the usefulness in defending cap gives a lot more freedom to teams to go on the offensive. Perhaps our opinions on the purpose of artillery just varies because I’m happy having a reliable support tank over a damage dealing tank I personally find very random.

      2. But you have HT and MT that have better view range at tier 10 then LT. There are other ways to balance out the LT without increasing their reload or reducing their view range.

they made the changes because people found the view range good so they focus on fire power. But they could have left it unchanged and instead done 1 of 2 things, or both:

1 – remove gun rammers from the LT class
2 – increase max potential view range for the LT class only from 445m to 475m

Both options wouldn’t require any nerf to LT base stats at all, and you can further emphasise the LT scout role by reducing the base view range of HT and MT.

As for the US line progression im not saying that the T71 should be after the M41 and build into the T49. I have posts on places with how I would have it, but basically the LT line would stay as it is on the live server with the “Sheridan” test bed at tier 9 (instead of tier 10 like it is now) and then have the production Sharidan at tier 10. You could also have a second LT that was suggested on RSR some time ago with the T71 CMCD being at tier 7, the T71 moved up to tier 8 (with the M41 building into it and the the T49), TT71 with 90mm at tier 9 and TMG at tier 10. That’s how you make the line have a logical and historical progression

Artillery might be more comfortable to use but the stun is more annoying, especially since you can’t take cover from arty since they can splash you behind buildings with ease and the damage trade off just isn’t worth it. Not saying it needs the damage it has on live server but damage should be rranged between 950 (B-C) and 1,550 (T92) with the splash radius being 25% larger then what’s on liver server over the 50% larger that they have in 9.18. Why buff splash radius so much if you’re making SPGs more accurate? While I agree that being able to reset an early fast cap is nice but what’s to stop say a Maus having a great game but needs to cap because of the remaining time and isn’t fast enough to catch the arty in 1v1… there’s 10 sec left to cap and 20 sec left in the game, SPG blind fires and doesn’t even deal damage but you get stunned and the cap resets to force the draw… this is going to happen way more often and will be absolutely infuriating.

Arty can hardly be classed as a support tank purely because it stuns an enemy. Just because you stun an enemy doesnt mean your team will utilise it. You’re team is more likely to push onto a Maus that just had 900 health removed from an SPG then a Maus that had 150 damage removed and has a 1.5sec longer reload for 15sec.

Yes SPG needs a change but they just haven’t found the right blance between damage and stun

      3. Deadarashi, you are right that most tier 10 heavies and mediums have more view range than only the T-100 LT and AMX 13 105 but they do not have light tank camo.

Let us say the T-100 LT and Obj 140 are competing to spot a relatively stealthy heavy tank, the IS-7. Let us assume the IS-7 is also in the middle of an unobstructed field and all crews have every skill in the game. The T-100 LT and Obj 140 must advance at the stationary IS-7 from an infinite distance away until they spot the IS-7 and to the point in which the IS-7 spots them in return. Let us say the T-100 LT and Obj 140 are running optics, stabilizer, and rammer: 457 m and 469 m view range respectively. The IS-7 is running rammer, stabilizer, and vents: 409 m view range. The T-100 LT, Obj 140, and IS-7 will have 36.60%, 22.37%, and 12.54% camo respectively. The T-100 LT will spot the IS-7 at a range of 457-457(0.1254)=399.7 m and will not be spotted until 409-409(0.3660)=259.3 m, that is a 140 m stealth window. The Obj 140 on the other hand will spot the IS-7 at 469-469(0.1254)=410.2 m and will be spotted at a distance of 317.5 m, a 92.7 m stealth window. The difference in windows of stealth is roughly one map square. On top of this, the 140 cannot maneuver as easily and if there is an Strv 103B covering the IS-7 with 476 m view range and 57.48% camo. An Obj 140 cannot spot the Strv 103B until it closes the distance to 199.4 m but the Strv 103 B can spot the Obj 140 out to a range of 369.5 m meaning the Obj 140 has a kill zone 170.1 m wide to cross to only just spot the swedish td. All the while being in a slower and much larger target. The T-100 LT on the other hand had a much less likely hood of being spotted by the Strv which can only spot the T-100 at 301.8 m. The T-100 can also spot the Strv 103B at 194.3 m meaning the kill zone for the T-100 LT is only 107.5 m long. On top of this, you have a light tank 3 times more mobile than an Obj 140 and half the 140’s size twisting and weaving as it increases the chance of the Strv not being able to keep up and throw a shot before being easily circled.

I would also like to draw your attention to the fact that according to vabbict, a lot of Obj 140 drivers run rammer, stabilizer, and vents and will not have light tank view range.

As for removing the option of mounting a gun rammer, I like the idea, it does discourage medium tank play. It would however be a bit redundant with how low light tank dpm already is. It is kind of like a forced withdrawal of a rammer in the first place.

And my apologies for the misunderstanding between the T71 and M41. I like your idea. Hopefully wargaming will have the time to develop and introduce a balanced T71 CMCD into the game that does not feel redundant in game play to achieve such a goal. There are probably several other light tanks that could be introduced as well, I think it is just a matter of having the time outside of balancing such a massive new patch to create/balance new tanks.

I can see good merit to what you are saying about artillery Deadarashi, it’s quite a large balancing equation but none of your ideas are without positive intentions. Perhaps your system may work, I suspect wargaming will be tweaking the new artillery mechanics greatly over the next several patches and to a degree, the public outcry of many older players might force wargaming to tone things down. New players on the other hand will just find this as the norm and will play around it with a great deal more optimism. At least what I hope, I think only a live test can prove either of us right or wrong in our speculations.

As an avid 1v1 tourny duelist, I can inform you a 1.5 sec slower reload is a life saving grace especially for 15 sec. I think it is the same problem light tanks faced in supporting their team in spotting targets, you have to spot for your team and not for yourself. I am sure with practice, the community will understand the support role and be better at differentiating it from the lone hunter role. The new fire indicators and stun indicators also help a great deal in team work.

I agree artillery needs a lot of work. MOBA’s suffer this very same problem except on a far more massive scale. Currently, no game has found the solution of perfect balance but certainly as you said, there is no reason to strive for something better. 🙂

      4. You make good points and naturally our opinions will differ.

For me personally I believe patch 9.18 should be sent back to the sandbox with another attempt at a global class rebalance again. To me rebalance to all classes need to happen with the intro of LT to best showcase the variaties in classes.

Also map size increase from 1x1km to 1.5×1.5 or 2×2 would really allow for better variaty in maps and tank class gameplay

      5. Cwine says:

Have you even played the test server or are you just ranting. I have played the arties and other than the heavy slow tanks, maus type 4&5 and a few other heavy tanks the arties still do good damn and i have one shoted a lot of lights and mediums so it can still happen. It basically was rebalanced for the slow heavy tanks because i can still screw up most other tanks np and i have been top3 in damage making good crdits because of the better aim times.

      6. I did play them on the test server… hell I’ve been playing them since day one of the Sandbox… and they still aren’t ready for the live server, nothing in 9.18 is ready for the live server

  4. Thanks for putting all this together for us DecoNoir, patch notes like these are much appreciated. I am very curious to see how these changes play out in the game. Hopefully this will make the game more friendly to new players and help get rid of a lot of the toxic community 🙂

  5. “Preference of placing a player at the top/middle of the team list, if they have already played several battles at the bottom of the team list.”

WTH does this means? I thought it was random?

    1. It was random (if we believe WG, there are many conspiracy theorists out there who claim otherwise), but now it isn’t anymore.

Now, for every time you are bottom tier, your chances of becoming top tier increase. But, the opposite is also true. The more you are top tier, the bigger the chance you will be bottom tier next match.

  6. DoctorBest says:

“Crusader: Changed the vehicle type to Medium Tank”
Nooooooooooooooooooo. That tank was so fucking OP as a passive scout !

  7. It sounds bad, arty firing quicker and more accuratly, ok no one shots but you will be forever tracked. Mediums with better view range than lights.
Small stupid coridor maps …. (not fixed)
I think the testing was incomplete and now it goes live .. o dear

  8. Changed the view range of the AMX 12 t turret from 380 m to 360 m
Changed the tier of the AMX 12 t turret from IV to VI

    LOL
I see a big shark and I see WoT jumping over it.

  9. Anonymous says:

As I said before, I rather be fucked by arty occasionally in a single game rather than having constant suppressive indirect fire that is accurate and stunning on my crews. I actually liked the LT extension, but wished they kept LT as a more “mobile” MT that traded some firepower and armor for speed and viewrange rather than a pure “scout”. IMO the scout’s vision should have a stronger “view pierce” value on camouflage bushes against TDs rather than pure viewrange increases.

  10. I am confused, the reason they made tierX light tanks, supposed to be that the current meta with the view range and the spotting gameplay made them obsolete. If the spotting mechanic is obsolete, why they became useless by nerfing the spotting distance?

  11. Scarvalho says:

lets be honest, the only way to make arty acceptable is to remove it completely. Now instead of it ****ing you one big time every now and then, it will **** a little bit all the time. That still bad.

    1. Heinz says:

Lets be honest, some players invested 50+ hours and 30 mio credits in grinding arty you cannot refund this. Removing is not an option. What about removing meds because they are op? Would not make you happy right?

      1. Bricktop says:

Medium tanks don’t deal massive damage from satellite view from across the map and are vulnerable to return fire.

    2. bbmoose says:

Arty can’t be removed, but the way they are changing it, is not cool. More accuracy, better aimtime and shorter reload is fine, but a bigger blastradius and the stuneffect is just too much. The way they nerfed the damage is fine though.

They should also change the arc of the shells, so arty won’t be able to lob shells over any kind of cover that easy.

  12. Wahnfried III says:

They are really doing it. Now, brace for incoming arty whine. Lets get real, people will always one about something… .should they really remove arty the same scrubs will simple whine about something else.

They are bold though. Those chances have a high potential of pissing of a lot of players.

Artillery balancing will be hugely affected by this. A lot of artilleries will become obsolete while others may become more viable. The destruction of the self defense capability means that mobility is far more important for arty now than in the past.

Ohh… and they ruined the ELC.

  13. Markx97 says:

What a pile of crap, world of tanks is not the same anymore. In hindsight you’ll realise that arty is a little fun class you can play when you get annoyed with playing normal classes, now it a bullsh!t un-realistic system. Stun my arsehole.

    1. Partybooper says:

Arty and fun in one sentence… I can’t confirm that. And the class is not fair at all as well. Being able to heavily damage and destroy the games of players who actually don’t try to camp the entire match while they can’t fight them back… No thanks.

When a super red tomato player is killing a unicum just because his clicker-RNG was good (because, well, arty has almost nothing to do with skill. Nothing) is plain ridiculous. It’s a class for those people who don’t understand the game mechanics at all and don’t want to learn them. You don’t need to know anything about weakspots. Terrain usage. Map awareness. Spotting mechanics. Camo mechanics. Choosing the proper ammunition. Anything which makes this game great. Nothing.

All you have to do is sit there for minutes, then click and hope your RNG is good so that you will actually hit what you’re aiming at. Yes, great fun. Actually, going to a casino and rolling some dice is a lot more fun, because there, the chances for everyone are equal. RNG only for everyone. Here, no. Luck in a clicker can beat skill in a normal tank. Shouldn’t be like that.

      1. HUN_Sector says:

Tomato players can be identified as constantly using gold ammo in any vehicle.

This is a more serious problem, than artillery.

      2. Partybooper says:

Gold ammo can be evaded, as you usually can see the enemy you’re fighting against. Clickers? You don’t know where they are on the map until you get hit by them. And don’t tell me you should stand arty-safe when you’re spotted. Because then, nobody should actually move because they need to be scared to get hit by a clicker if they don’t jump behind a tall building as soon as sixth sense goes off.

Arty destroys dynamic gameplay and using many places on the map. Gold ammo? Not so much. It’s sometimes annoying, but that’s it. Clickers cancel out big portions of the map for playing when they are in a matchup. See the matches which have no clickers on either side – good players enjoy this a lot more because it gives them so many more options.

      3. In my experience, unicum players in big clans use gold ammo just as much as some tomato players. Simply because they can afford the loss of income with gold income from the clan…

      4. Nocomment says:

You would have a point if arty actually fired fast.
Typical argument of someone who sees an arty shell land and then sits behind a house frozen for the rest of the game ytypeing I hate arty into the chat window. Instead of doing the simple thought process of: Arty has just fired…this means of no arty fire 30-50 second… whats my best move. Relocate engage pull back etc…

      5. “You don’t need to know anything about weakspots. Terrain usage. Map awareness. Spotting mechanics. Camo mechanics. Choosing the proper ammunition. Anything which makes this game great. Nothing.”

You never played arty it seems, or at least not properly. I would argue that any tomato plays without any of the skills you mention.
You are portraying the stereotypical vision of an arty player.

Terrain usage: Yeah, your gun arc, you have to know where you can actually lob your shot, and you have to know from where. This is easier said than done, especially in city maps. In duels or endgame you definitely can use terrain to your advantage.
Map awareness: Totally a must to master. With slow aimtime you have to predict where enemies will be, you have to support the right flank, and move accordingly to the progress of the match. Also general knowledge about each map is a must to do good.
Spotting mechanics: Not so much, but knowing when your lt’s are gonna spot and for how long the enemy is spotted is a thing…
Camo mechanics: Not so much either. Kemp boosch and shotgun light tanks? 😛 With fast firing arty you can actually do the bush trick with pulling back til bush becomes non-transparent!
Chosing the proper ammunition: Depends on the arty, but its DEFINITELY a big factor… except now after nerfs.

Look i get it. No one likes arty. I would not mind they removed it completely tbh, but what you said is just not true.
I play all tank types almost evenly, and i use all the knowledge of “ordinary” tanks to play arty better.

    2. Stun represents shell shock. If you’ve ever played bumper cars, imagine the shock 100 times greater as the metal coffin around you oscillates at a deafening frequency around you from the explosion. Your brain, is also not fixed in your head. Like any organ, it will jiggle around if something big like an explosion shakes you up. Back in the world war’s it was not uncommon for soldiers to go deaf from being shelled too much. This loss of orientation hurts the fighting capacity of a tank crew.

Artillery is a great deal more relaxing now that players can rely on doing consistent damage than random amounts. QB did some records of games in his artillery, 2-4k damage games in his M53/55 so it’s not like Artillery is any worse off than before. Personally I have been only playing doubles in my arty because some bad RNG can really make you give up on the game, especially on a bad day and you need something as a cheer up.

  14. I simply do not understand why Wargaming is preventing artillery from entering platoons at all. If 2+ arty platoons are really such a problem (and I doubt they are; I get the impression that WG is simply fishing for an excuse to get rid of the class entirely and will use whatever happens after 9.18 as justification to do so), then just prevent more than one arty from entering platoons. Two tanks, one artillery. Problem solved.

And don’t even bother with the “arty in platoons only supports their platoons and not the team” excuse. Have you ever tried relying on randoms players in pub matches for backup and support? Doesn’t exist. That’s why platoons exist in the first place: to back you up because no one else will.

    1. arty platoons increase the chance of players feeling cheated by removing most if not all their health. ie. being focus fired or coming around a corner on a platoon mate to find out was a trap. Also, a well coordinated cycle of stun splashes can ruin anyone’s day. Since more players are being shot at than the one doing the shooting, the rule of game design is to favor the majority’s experience.

There are simply too many variables to account for in arty platoons. But simple matter is, if you have a high likelihood of losing all or most of your health from an unseen enemy that you had no chance of shooting back at. It tends to leave a poor impression on players, especially new ones.

You may disagree, but quite a few artillery can still penetrate softly armored tanks especially with improved accuracy. Can’t have the scouts focus fired out when they need to kill artillery. That breaks the food chain.

      1. Super Professional says:

“ie. being focus fired or coming around a corner on a platoon mate to find out was a trap.”

If that’s the case, then WG should get rid of TDs and every bush in the game, because getting focus-fired by camping TDs tends to cause more problems than artillery, in my experience. And coming around a corner to shoot at an enemy tank, only to get penned multiple times by people just waiting for such an opportunity? That’s every game ever. Artillery isn’t to blame for that.

      2. You’re taking my words out of context my friend. But you mean well, I appreciate the quote nonetheless.

If you’ve played world of tanks in platoons, you should be very well aware that it is much easier for artillery to focus fire than it is with tank destroyers because artillery can fire over obstructions and do not necessarily need to maneuver around terrain and enemies. This is focus fire over the course of a minute rather than a second.

TD’s are also much more easily spotted and more easily played because they do not have the luxury of indirect fire and long range. Normally a foresight skill competitive players master but I would recommend you watch some TD videos on youtube to help your understanding of how they play and how easily they can be countered. This essential flaw of being predictable is why in competitive play TD’s are limited to a few tanks per side rather than the bulk of the force.

  15. Partybooper says:

I sincerely hope that WG will stick to their promises. If the stun mechanic proves to be too annoying and players who actually want to enjoy the game with proper tanks start to leave this game slowly, that they will remove arty altogether.

Don’t have a link to the source, but it was in one of the articles here on RSR.

Imagine an arty-free WoT… Glorious! Dynamic plays, flanking, hull down behind smaller ridges on open fields… No more camping behind rocks or an entire match to avoid the sky cancer.

I am waiting for this day for WoT to rise from the ashes. This is a chance. I have patience.

    1. Anonymous says:

so narrow minded, jumping on the band wagon that arty are the problem, but autoloaders ain’t. the number of times you get one shotted by arty is nothing compared to the number of times you get clipped by a batchat or other autoloader, squinney people won’t be happy with arty going, it will be something else that is the bad tank next.

      1. Partybooper says:

Which bandwagon? It’s my opinion since I started playing this game years ago!
Every match without artillery is so much more enjoyable. You can tear the enemies apart so easily. I love it. It’s like a different game.

But noup… All moves which are a little bit more risky but could reward you a lot by being smart are dnied if there is a tomato in an arty. A kind of player who would never be able to damage a good player even once. Oh yeah, lovely mechanic for those who are too stubborn to learn the game with a proper tank! 🙂

    2. betterdead thanred says:

i am in a clan with a guy that sounds somewhat like you, paranoid, and convinced arty is only after him. plays only SH and CW, because random battles are rigged he says. he even wrote a message to WG, quote: ”stop fucking me over”

strange thing is, that he never learns, always surprised and angry when getting hit by arty, when standing still in the middle of an open field…….

      1. Hahaha, I always like reading forum posts of those extremely paranoid players. As if WG has nothing better to do than hunting down those few players amongst the millions of players.

      2. Thagomizer says:

You mean he never learnt the basics? When you think arty is targeting you, pull the occasional stop or direction change so they can’t anticipate where you will be, never pop up in the same place twice, always drive every across an SPG’s view (never approach straight on) and always try to attack from below.

I got reported for cheating yesterday by someone who ignored all these basics. I enjoyed him being a piñata 😉

    3. Nafre says:

You have no idea what you’re talking about. So instead of hiding behind a rock they hide behind wrecks and other crap making them invulnerable unless you can get around them.
Newsflash arty don’t always hit tanks on the move. I love it how idiots think that arty is easy mode.
And the whole tomato mentally. What a load of crap. I’ve seen tomato play better than purple players because they are smarter. I was in a game the other day and a three man platoon from enemy team had an omni player in it, guess what they died in first 2 minutes like idiots. They didn’t even attempt to fall back.
Yeah tomato arty breaks the game. Bloody idiots

  16. HUN_Sector says:

FV304 wont even damage anything with twentyX pen. And it doesn’t even has stun effect, so it wont receive any xp in a battle…

  17. KingTiger375 says:

I cant get it why everyone is complaining about the firepower of LT’s.

Everything in this game is about FP!
In my eyes esp. the french tanks could at least be lifted to an equal lvl compared to the other LT’s when it comes to accuracy and penetration. In my eyes for the 1390 & 13105 the pen could be lifted by around 20mm’s while acc could be set for the topcanon around 0.35 & 0.37 (Standard=without vent, bias, food) for the respectitive vehicle.

they lack enough when it comes to clipsize, vehiclesize, alpha, pen(compared to MT’s, etc.)….

They need it. In any lategame or in some highly important moments, there is no viewrange that decides about the win and loose, but the firepower! And how they are atm, that’s where they always are relying on their teammates.

but for this playstyle everyone is to selfish!

      1. KingTiger375 says:

wtf their acc and pen was far too low, first iteration of SB was how they should have been implemented in 9.18

  18. Anonymous says:

Another game nerf. WG continues to try and drive away everyone but heavy tank players. I don’t play arty but sure do look for its help. Now arty will be useless. Stun fixed in moments so that will be useless. Lights will not light up campers for arty to take out – so they will now be useless. All in all its just Protecting the poor picked on heavies.

Yes heavies – those that have armour , guns , HP, the ability to still disappear ion front of you, view range, corridor maps denuded of all cover rendering TD vulnerable, no more worrying about arty now there’s little damage and no platoons.

Predict declining lights as they will have less support.

That leaves heavies vs heavies , oh that will be fun – NOT.

A game that took on the world did not have a lot wrong to start with, fact, rock- paper-scissors – is no fun when its rock- rock-rock.

  19. betterdead thanred says:

    played moderately on sandbox.
both arty and lights might work, but it might be too big of a change. i only have tier 7 arty, so no big problem for me if they should **** it up. but imho better to be oneshot by t92, than permatracked to death by fv304. platoon of those can make the enemy want to stay in base.

and like always, light tanks require brains, it says so on the recipe when cooking light tanks in the kitchen.
but i am still convinced that light tanks should only be available to those of sufficient skill, open map and noob scout on team, places high favor for the other team.
should be like ”need 5000 personal rating to unlock light tanks” or something along those lines. im sorry for pissing people off.

      >played moderately on sandbox.

Not the light tanks. Yes, they did fine on SB, I have to say. But the problem was WG nerfed them further during public test #2.

      >but i am still convinced that light tanks should only be available to those of sufficient skill,
And players with that skills will certainly know you can do everything new LTs (again I mean LTs on PT not SB) able to do with Bat or Leopard plus 3 skills/perks crews, while in the same time they give you MUCH more firepower in the same package for absolutely free. The difference of camo value just isn’t that big for you to give up those things a fast MT can give you.

Seriously, go see QB’s video on this topic. If you hate QB, go see DezGamez or anyone else. When most of people who actually know what they are do in this game came out with the same conclusion, it means something.

true regarding the fact i did not play alot in the test server, found that they were nerfed, but still able to do their intended job. cannot speak of 5k+ dmg/spot so far.
lights are more map dependant than before. and yes i agree that they are sometimes not worth the spot among 15 players in some battles (city maps etc)

but as spotters on the open maps, they did their part.

having watched QB and DEZ complain about the new lights while sniping from afar, isnt exactly completely justified.
looking at dez playing, and calling the new tanks ” limp ***** ” while sniping, he was more often sniping than spotting.

yes they are nerfed heavily, but i enjoy the salt from people that are more interested in dmg, than spotting the enemy

i still think that the mission system deserves an overhaul for ppl like me who are terrible on LTs and SPG. then again no ETA for this in SEA site yet…

  21. Oh, crap. So much bad. Thinking the only thing good about the arty changes is it prestages just getting rid of arty, where they could have just turned them into a variant TD class with direct fire (which those arty could do). And WTF turning the Crusader into a MT ?!? And of course they went through with the major nerf to the VK28.01 and killed its 105 derp gun. Is WG afraid we might have fun playing the game? >:(

Crusader changed to a medium? Why? I’m a few percent away from my third mark of excellence and they do this? Will the cameo be nerfed?

  23. 1) The MM changes will NOT improve the competitiveness of the game. Team will still end up getting shafted with window lickers, which is the real cause of the problem. 2) There was NO reason to eliminate SPGs from platoons, just restrict it to 1 per platoon if that is such a big deal. If you are still going to have 3 SPGs per match, then why not just allow 1 platoon of SPGs to join and any others would either go to the other team or wait for the next match? 3) If you want a competitive game, why not make maps bigger (no tank should be have a view range of more than 1/4 of a map) and the view ranges for meds/heavies/TDs/SPGs less than lights (otherwise why bother having lights)?

All you people do is moan and groan about every update. It seems like you can never ever have fun because this game is serious buisness. I welcome the changes. I like how the direction the game is going and sure WG stumbles and bumbles along sometimes but at the end of the day, I still have fun playing the game.

I played a few tier 10 light games on the test server. They didn’t seem any worse or better than current (Tier 8) scouts. Except the T100. That thing was a beast. It was easy to get 3K / 4K assistance plus 2K / 3K damage.

  26. Seth Hill says:

So as I predicted, then new MM hasn’t made the game more competitive. After 12 matches with the new MM there have been 9 lopsided battles (15 vs 6 or less kills). 2 have been 15-9 and 1 has been 15-11.

I checked out my Crusader on the test server, having realised I hadn’t noticed it was a MT there! (couldn’t get a game though, trying to get a game in anything less than a tier 8 just times out most of the time). It still has 30% camo stationary, but now 23% when moving. Not too bad. It kind of makes sense really, the Crusader was never a Scout tank in the game. Shame though, it was my primary LT for the campaign missions too! I DID manage my third mark, luckily…
