Hello,
Extra Credits is back with another Extra history episode which was sponsored by Wargaming:
There have been some inconsistencies in the last videos but I suppose this is what happens when they team up with the wrong office, still ran the video on my second screen for the tank animations although.
Cue the whining of tank enthusiasts. Yep, they mislabelled a Pz IV as a Tiger at 2:55, and a t-34-85 as a t-34. They’ll issue a correction at the end, undoubtedly (because that is their standard followup to a series).
Meanwhile, the casual non-tank people who these videos are reaching probably won’t notice or care about details like these but might yet develop an interest in tanks and/or World of Tanks. I mean, World of Tanks has plenty of historical issues itself, and when I started this game, I knew nothing about tanks except they were big treaded things with guns. I learned later about how some of the tanks in game never existed, or existed with different specifications and such. Still, I’ve learned a lot since then, and that’s what counts.
tl;dr These videos aren’t really FOR us, they’re for casuals. The big picture is accurate enough, even if the details aren’t always on point.
I find the content of these very engaging…but the voice is annoying. Can’t decide whether he is just sped up or breathing Helium.
Definately sped up or distorted in some way. They should get Indy Neidell from The Great War-series on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51FXgQOoppw <– this is some of his work and it is freaking awesome to say the least. The story of the SMS Emden is just glossed over in World of Warships, but it's truly an epic one.
Historically incorrect. Enigma revealed the Wehrmacht’s intentions and British Intelligence alerted the soviets well in advance of Kursk – but it took a while for Stalin to believe the information he was given. The story of a defector revealing the information was to cover for the fact that the German signals were being read at will.
and also, the brains behind Kursk was Rokosovski, not Jukov. He spent just 5 hours at the front at Rokosovski’s HQ, made no decisions, toke no responsabilities, and before the hostilities comenced, he flew out . That butcher should be finally exposed to what he was, and the rightful people should be finally praised for they’re true historical role.
