Hello,
and as we are into Matilda content lately, if you saw the latest Tank Chats from The Tank Museum, David Willey narrated in front of a demounted Matilda II.
Our Desert Queen has finally received funds to undergo an overhaul, she had been for quite sometime inoperable in the VCC, her problem, quoting Bovvy Staff own words, was “She has been pissing oil”.
I’m very happy to tell you that the museum will be uploading videos to update on how she is doing (I love the amount of insight given by Bob Darwood):
The museum also emailed me a couple of pictures (I may, with permission of course, pop around the museum in a few weeks to see how she is doing and take extra photos for you):
Clown camo FTW!
Remember David Fletcher saying the blue was wrong in the video on the Matilda, but I do not recall what he said was actually wrong with it.
Apparently because this particular Matilda II was one of many tanks built at a railway locomotive works, the build quality is better than most.
She’s pretty much entirely stripped apart at the moment and this restoration will likely last quite a while. Hopefully I’ll be doing more work on her in the future, all I’ve done so far is clean up a few of the suspension components.
From what I’ve seen of the workshops, so far, I’m pretty impressed, they do good work given their rather limited facilities (only two maintenance bays for the entire running fleet!). Apparently they’re going to build a new workshop adjacent to the VCC, which would be great.
Meanwhile Saumur has finally restored the only BatChat in the world (the one that was left rusting, as you can see here http://ftr.wot-news.com/2014/04/05/batchat-25t-rl-photos/ ), all that thanks to WoT (BatChat is now displayed next to the ELC and AMX 13) but nobody seems to give a crap
