NOTE: in this iteration of the sandbox, we test HE shells for tech tree and some reward tanks only, there will be no changes in artillery; the difference in the damage values of some artillery shells is a mistake
The average penetration marker for HE shells has been removed – it sows 0 mm; except for artillery. RNG of +/- 25% remains.
As already seen.

KV-2 KV1S tier 5???
So I guess they actually are just removing the FV4005’s HESH round…? Honestly why even have any HE exlusive guns anymore if you’re going to go this route? Like why should derp HE guns even exist? If Wargaming is actually going to do this, they should just remove those guns and offer full free xp refunds for the research cost of those guns, plus credit compensation because these changes make all of those types of guns completely irrelevant. Plus, if you’re going to do this, you’re going to need to buff the FV4005 and the FV215b 183 just to make them worth playing. Those HESH rounds were the entire reason people even played them in the first place.
They specifically said HESH has been removed for testing purposes. What happens to high-pen HESH and HEP rounds is still unclear. It’s likely they will get more HE damage.
I can’t see this going through. There’s no way players will embrace this garbage. We already have two round on our tanks with close to fixed damages. We don’t need the HE to be predictable. If anything the pen or actually landing a hit should be more predictable. I lost count of how many times my 420pen round bounced off a LT’s gun mantlet.
You really think WG gives a shit about what the players think?
Yeah seeing as how they wasted all that money on the rubicon and had to scrap it.
players that only play russian tanks , and super conq , and chiefs …will gonna be 100% agree with this shit bcz they anyway use only gold ammo , and in return they will not be dmged by HE ammo
So no changes to FV183 or Foch 155?
first you take my waffle, then you nerf the sh*tbarn after I get it, then the 183, now this poop…..really wg ?
I rather welcome this kind of experiment.
For what i can make out, the new damage values are short of exactly what we see today anyways.
In the long run the HE potential of any vehicle will be far more obvious.
As always, lets see how it plays out!!
I’m gonna have to agree with this, since I have played through most of the Japanese heavy line (Type 4 is just too painful and stayed at the O-ho till they raped it) and exclusively used the HE gun on the AT2 these numbers are very close to the actual average damage you get.
Though with that said I do worry that we’re gonna be looking at the new gold spammo since this doesn’t bounce and it always does the stated damage, so tanks like the T95 could be rapidly whittled down with HE spam when they might be able to do things that would bounce gold spammo.
well, it was obvious the HP pool in the game could not keep up with the power creep, however it makes no sense to reduce HE dmg while not also reducing the dmg to all other ammo types, reducing the dmg on non-penetrating hits would make sense but reducing the alpha dmg to a point where even with penetration it will do less/same damage than AP makes absolutely no sense
I would like it more to have WoT be a bit more like WoWs where you have the HP pool to take a unexpected hit and be able to react accordingly and fight back, I believe the average match duration is 7 minutes, would it be so bad if by increasing HP a little it increase to 10 minutes?
7mins long?
U r obviously not on the mm rape list
In 2mins I’ve usually lost 5players
+4-5mins, it’s all over
15-5 mm created losses are the norm
16x losses in a row yday
Enemy “randomly” get personal rating 6000 players +my team get ²—4000 players.
Wg might as well quit the pretense +just make it 5 vs 15
I have to ask, do you know what «average match duration» means?
it obviously does not mean that in a year there’s more 7 minutes long matches than matches of any other duration, it means that if you add every second spent in every match and devide by the total number of matches the average is 7 minutes, and that comes from the fact you have matches as quick as 2 minutes (been there, done that) but also as long as 15 minutes (if you go to your win/loss counter you see the numbers don’t add up because, generally speaking, you would have up to 1% draws)
and now another question, wouldn’t increasing the HP pool, and thus increasing the average time spent in a match, help with that as well?
there are players who can’t learn the game as quickly as others, some need time to see how they are losing HP instead of dying in 1 or 2 shots and being sent back to garage, being able to take 1 or 2 more hits than they can right now would help at least 1/3 of those players becoming better, and a larger HP pool can also help reduce the power creep from Tier to Tier making matches more balanced
and how can I claim that?
its quite simple, we have seen it work just like that in WoWs where players can make a mistake and still recover IF make th right decision, because they aren’t generally pusnished as severelly fom a single mistake as we are in WoT and that experience will help at least a portion of the players grow
Lots of good thoughts here. But for what it’s worth a reduction in HE would make armour relevant again, i.e. more fun in heavy tanks.
What would make armour relevant again is actually nerfing the penetration of premium rounds.
well, it does not, armor feels irrelevant because the game is full with point&click OP tanks and lazy players who only use GOLD AMMO, nothing to do with HE, if they balance gold ammo to do less damage it will lead to those lazy players using it less because on a 1-on-1 confrontation the number of times they win will drastically decrease since gold ammo would no longer have the DPM to overpower the opposing tank
From what I gather, this is a buff for HE against heavy tanks but a nerf for HE against thin armor tanks. Instead of doing a tiny bit of damage on heavies, u’ll get more every time. And for thin armor, u won’t get that monster damage shot it, it’ll just be capped.
Derp guns are pretty much forced to use gold rounds with this change.
They can’t change the 183 – they turned it into a Premium and sold it as part of the black market remember?
To the people who say the new damage is close to what you get nowadays anyway – my KV2 and M4A1 says BULLSHIT.
Go and watch QBs video on this – the new HE dmg is WAAAAAY below what you would reliably get beforehand.
This will never make it to public… think of all the implications – Spall Liners become useless – Refunds required for all those who purchased these.
Yessssss. Suck a fat one kv-2.
It seems to me, that the few players that have posted here,
Have great subject knowledge +have already brain stormed the situation, each with highly valid points.
I agree that these values are close to current in game results.
1 shotting light armour will disappear… So that realism will go +lights will pick off these tanks easier….
I think arty values should also be reduced, so no more 1 shotting from them either.
These changes also take away aiming skill, with no failing to pen.
Bad idea.
All negatively affecting tanks that aren’t in Russian trees.
Hmm wg how’s your rouble income vs that from the rest of the world
Not sure about high tiers, but the changes at low tier may help bring in new players…I can imagine a new player in tier 3 being 1-shot by a Hetzer using HE (for example) isn’t likely to have a positive view of the game.
It’s just a shame they couldn’t have dropped HE pen at lower tiers (to prevent 1-hit kills), and at higher maybe made HE work in a similar manner to that of Artillery (stun rather than massive damage). This would also have the effect of making spall liners and suspension (if altered to protect tracks against HE splash) viable options for equipment rather than rammer, vert-stab, vents/optics which is most common choice.
If you watch the quickybaby youtube on this HE changes, you will know the real reason is that WG “force” you to fire premium round.

RIP my KV-2….
Having watched the video, it seemed more of a whine that he could no longer 1-shot the lightly armored targets, giving those players a chance to participate in the battle and return fire. He didn’t make much mention of the option of switching the guns (the 107mm gives a slightly lower DPM on the KV-2, with better pen and fire rate, for example, allowing you to spread damage among multiple targets instead of “overkill” on a single target then long reload where you cannot support the team).
It was as though he was looking for some way to make it about gold rounds, rather than play style\gun choice – After all, why worry about weak-spots when you can hit anywhere on a lower tier and 1-shot them with no thought needed (and no motivation for the garaged player to want to continue playing the game, particularly if it happens multiple times in a session).
As an aside, this change may also help counter the camping problem, as it would lowers the risk of being insta-killed if you leave cover (There’s still the possibility of 15 guns aimed at your rock, though, just waiting for you to peek).
If you ever use the 107mm on the KV-2, you’re missing the entire point of the tank. If anybody wanted consistent damage, then you’d just see lobbies full of meta tanks like Cromwells and T-34-85Ms. Derp guns break up the monotony of this boring ass game. I’ve been playing for 9 years and never once have I complained about being one shot. It’s a part of the game. It’s a very high risk high reward play style. If I wanted consistency, I’d just play the Cromwell 24/7 at tier 6 because why play anything else?
Yes, Bepis, YOU have been playing for 9 years, but think about someone who is new to the game, maybe playing their first 10 games…How motivated do you think they would be to continue in a game where they are 1-shot in the first minute of the game? Now imagine it happens again in the next 2-3 games they play…
While the Derp does have the “fun” factor for some “experienced” players, WG need new players to be brought into the game as otherwise natural attrition will cause the player base to drop to unsustainable levels.
BTW, your argument in favor of the current HE mechanic (Been playing for 9 years, never complained about being 1-shot, breaks up monotony, etc.) could equally be used by other players (myself included) to describe the change from the original artillery mechanics – Would you like that back?
Dude. Stop acting like people are coming to play this game. They’re putting bots in low tier games now for a reason. People know what this game is by now. It’s pay to win, it’s filled with bots in high tier games that are used as xp farmers, etc. This game has been in a retention period for a very long time. You only have more players to lose at this point than new players to gain.
I mean to also go against your point of “motivation,” how much motivation would you have when you get circled by a wheeled tank to death or you just melted by some 5 skill crew Cromwell driver that just wrecks you? If you’re new, you’re going to get obliterated by all the veteran players on here because we all know how to play the game and we’ve got fully optimized crews to do it in. There is no catch-up for a newer player. You’re going to get destroyed, whether it’s by getting one shot by a derp Sherman or getting picked apart by an invisible T67 or whatever, you’re still going to get destroyed.
Also, the difference between getting shot by a KV-2 and getting spammed to death by an artillery is the fact that you actually have to stick your gun out as a KV-2 driver. There is absolutely no risk at all in playing artillery, especially now since most of the time your biggest concern was your own teammates killing you for actually playing artillery. I have a Conqueror GC and I’ve abused it A LOT, so don’t try to tell me why artillery hasn’t been the bane of this game’s existence since forever.
And it’s not like getting permatracked to death is exactly fun either all because you used your repair kit less than a minute ago, or even getting half your health picked away by an autoloading french tank, or even just getting shredded by some broken ass invisible TD like an E-25 or one of the Swedish cheese wedges. It’s like picking your poison in this game.
Also, just for arguments sake, why would you EVER grind out the KV-2 to play it like a T-150? The T-150, with the 107mm is MILES above the KV-2. It carries more rounds, has better gun handling, better armor, better hp, better mobility in every single way, and it doesn’t need two loaders. Unless you’re actually grinding for the S-51, it’s completely pointless to ever research the KV-2 if these changes are pushed. That 152mm gun is the ENTIRE POINT of the KV-2. It’s the reason people even look at it as a research option.
KV-2 has a 18+sec reload and a very slow turret traverse. If it’s killing u in one shot then u’re doing something wrong. U’re exposing ur weak spots or u’re standing in a field. Judging by ur one-size-fits-all attitude, I’m guessing u like to sit in a field and complain about tanks sniping u and how it’s everyone else’s fault.
Read through this comment and you other arguments…. you wouldn’t be a communist would you by chance? Can’t be different to everyone else – conform to the masses etc.etc.?
By your argument we need to:
1) Remove all heavily armoured tanks from the game because “how motivated would new players be” when they cannot pen the front of heavy tanks which they see?
2) Nerf all fast lights by making all tanks the same speed – because if a new player is in say a TD with god awful traverse… “how motivated would new players be” if they were circle worked to death?
3) Remove all camouflage / cover from all maps – eg trees – because “how motivated would new players be” if a player using bush mechanics correctly killed a new player without the new player ever spotting them.
etc.etc.etc.etc.
So lets make all tanks on all tech trees the same – 50 dmg per shot – get rid of all armor – nothing to learn for new players – but keep them motivated…………
Yeah – that’ll work well for the longevity of the game. Lucky WGing doesn’t have you working for them – they would already be out of business.
This will kill diversity of the game and make it too predictable. now we always pen with gold, and always make smae damage with new HE, negating the skill and knowedge of the game. this is sad.
So much for the Cruiser II being a useful tank if this change goes through (and I’m not commenting for/against the change — I want to play with it first). Almost all of the fun of that tank (plus others) is it’s out-sized ability to deal damage while being very susceptible to enemy fire.
Awww then I won’t be able to 1 shot su130 for full health
Did World of Tanks player base ask for the HE nerf? NO!!
We have been asking for other things to make the game more enjoyable like bringing back the old maps, and/or more new maps, and fixing the matchmaker.
Another BAD DECISION on wargaming’s behalf that will cost them more NA server players.
