WAR THUNDER- ANSWERS FROM THE DEVELOPERS

So Gaijin has posted a Q&A on their website.

REGIA AERONAUTICA

Q: Will packs be added to Steam that provide access to the Italian closed beta?
A: Answer: All packs in the store can be bought through Steam, just click on the “Order” button on the vehicle of interest in the tech tree.

Q: When will packs arrive on the PSN?
A: Answer: We estimate that by the time this article has been published, the packs will have become available.

Q: Will a bonus crew slot be added (the one awarded for the “Invite Friend” program) to the Italian line and any new playable nations in general?
A: Answer: Bonuses for inviting friends were provided for existing nations at the time of the invites. Italy appeared after this.

Q: Will the achievements on Italian aircraft in the German tech tree be moved to the Italian tech tree?
A: Answer: Achievements always count toward the Nation that the vehicle represents in the tree.

Q: Will Italy have ground vehicles?
A: Answer: Yes, we plan this. For the time being, we can’t say when the full ground vehicle tech tree will appear, but we are not ruling out a vehicle-by-vehicle addition. As happened with the British tree, for example. This will allow you to use Italian assault aircraft in mixed battles.

Q: Why haven’t already researched aircraft moved across to the Italian research tree in the updates with existing progress saved?
A: Answer: Because these aircraft’s research was begun in the Germany tech tree and with the support of German aviation, this isn’t the same as researching them in another Nation’s tree.

Q: Will Italy have a navy?
A: Answer: We don’t rule out this possibility. Actually, we’d like to see every nation with every vehicle type eventually.

Q: Will different skins be added for Italian aircraft? If yes, then when?
A: Answer: Of course they will. New skins will be added over time.

Q: How many days can you miss while unlocking 12 “arrows” (to become an Italian tree researcher)?
A: Answer: Quite a few. The tests will certainly last longer than 20 days.

Q: Why isn’t there an actual combat branch (aircraft that participated in real combat operations) for the Reggiane?
A: Answer: The release tree contains many real aircraft that were involved in battles. The Reggiane models will appear in the future. Work is currently being done on these aircraft.

Q: Why were the S.M.79 Series 4 and S.M.79 bis/N not added to the Italian tech tree after previously being removed from the German tree?
A: Answer: These models require certain improvements and updates for their armament and appearance. They might be added later after the required changes have been made.

GROUND FORCES

Q: When will ground vehicles from WW2 be separated from post-war ground vehicles?
A: Answer: We have never stated nor planned to separate vehicles or aircraft by year of production, or, set up the same matchmaking levels for vehicles or aircraft using the same year of production. BR, first and foremost, determines the combat capabilities of vehicles. Some vehicles designed and even built during World War II (the T-34-85, T-44, T-54, IS-3, M26/46, and even German vehicles that the Allied  countries obtained) continued to be used for a long time after the war and took part in post-war conflicts. Additional matchmaking stages, particularly at high ranks, make it harder to create a game session because a greater number of players are required – so we always take a careful approach to expanding the BR range. However, if a more powerful vehicle appears, the number of BR levels will be increased automatically.

Q: When will Soviet tanks get an EESS (engine exhaust smoke system)?
A: Answer: Setting up a smoke screen with an EESS is different from other ways of doing so, and that’s why it requires a new mechanic. We’re working on this currently, but can’t talk about specific timeframes yet.

Q: Why should I fire a smoke shell if it is better to use a normal one?
A: Answer: It’s handy if you need to reach a point through an area under enemy fire. Or if you’ve been hit and you need repairs, where your opponent is well hidden. Or if your ally is being attacked from a spot you can’t fire on and needs some cover. Or if you need to disorient clearly more powerful or even invulnerable opponents. Or if you want to distract your opponents. As you can see, there are lots of reasons.

Q: Will signal shells be added?
A: Answer: Who and what are you planning on signaling? 🙂 We have the ‘attention-to-the-point’ function – in war, this was a distant dream.

Q: When will smoke ordinance be introduced for all the vehicles?
A: Answer: Smoke ordinance will be given to all vehicles that historically had them, we will add them over time. There are quite a few ground vehicles with similar equipment.

OTHERS

Q: When will the Ultra Low cheater graphics settings be removed?
A: Answer: Are they really cheater settings? Switch them on and try to play. These settings haven’t given any significant advantages for a while: vegetation is rendered at a great distance and, in contrast to standard minimum settings, is not transparent. We’re not planning to get rid of Ultra Low. After all, many War Thunder players just like you use these settings.

Q: When will a Ukrainian localization be added?
A: Answer: The Ukrainian localization is 95% ready thanks to a team of translators from among the players. We hope that the remaining tasks will soon be completed, and you’ll be able to see the Ukrainian language in one of the upcoming large updates.

Q: Metal (for Mac OS) is a good thing. Will there be support for DX12 and Vulkan, and if so, when?
A: Answer: DX12 and Vulkan won’t provide any performance increases without a thorough reworking of the renderer. Such reworking would mean losing DX9 support, and the performance increase still wouldn’t be significant. At the same time, DX12 support provides no new effects that can’t be obtained on DX11.

Q: Why is the new line Italy and not France?
A: Answer: Because we really wanted to give you one of the more interesting air forces from the Second World War. Also, Italy has a big advantage over France in terms of the number of interesting aircraft.

Q: Will helicopters appear in the game?
A: Answer: As the 1st of April event showed, attack helicopters can easily have a place in mixed battles in our game, but this issue requires further development both in terms of balance (countermeasures and vehicles that could efficiently counter attack helicopters all need to be looked into) and in terms of other issues. If and when such a decision is made, we tell you about it separately.

if world of tanks and airplanes could only stop treating their customers with disrespect and get on with new content.

i have stopped playing war thunder years ago but recently started playing again and the new planes and vehicles are stunning. no clones as such here and the detailing is amazing.

i know war thunder is not perfect but they didn’t hamstring a class of people not understanding how it is played or ever played. yes I mean Arty,

so if you are a disgruntled WOT player there is an alternative.

    1. Blockhaj says:

Well wt is totally different from wot since it goes for a semi simulator role. A lot of WOT players ho moves on to wt seems to have huge problems with being bombed by planes. If u move on to wt i suggest u learn to play interceptors and spaa to deal with them cuz unlike arty in wot u can actually see them come and shoot back at them. Im probably gonna do a wot to wt beginners guide in the future.

    2. armando30 says:

how can you say there are no clones in WT? from premium captured vehicles to several variants of the same aircraft, clones is something present in WT as well
the Ki-10, He-51 or I-15, there’s no difference between each variants with the only variation probably being different production runs/batches
variants/clones are not the problem if it makes a line/tech tree work, problem is when native tanks/planes are set aside because of it

      1. Blockhaj says:

If u do some research u know that there are quite a lot of differences between the models in game. Even different batches differ a lot.

    1. Blockhaj says:

Depends on how u read it. Its written by a russian so u shouldnt expect good english. But what he is trying to say is that all packs are available on steam and can be bought there.

War thunder will finally do something before WoT if they manage to get Italian tanks out fast. Might light a fire under WhoreGaming’a ass to get the Italian tree in finally

    1. Blockhaj says:

WG isn’t even working on Italian tanks. When u look into it Italy can have 2 lines as maximum in wot and that is with modified clones and up gunned td’s. Their Heavy tanks dont go above tier 9 and that is with buffed armor and mobility.

“We’re not planning to get rid of Ultra Low. After all, many War Thunder players just like you use these settings.”

Where have I heard that before?… Oh yeah, when they noted a year or so back the skycancer in arcade ground forces. “People use it so they must like it”. I hope Gaijin will never change because I will use this same logic and even quote their answers if I ever find a bug to give me free anything and get gaught misusing it, because I liked that feature and showed it by using it (:D).

I don’t just get the logic behind that brainfart. It’s just so dumb way saying that thye are too lazy to fix at least two biggest problems on their game because (what I think) their own staff like to grief-kill and spam planes in GF arcade and they want to support potato-PCs. If (as dev) you give people a way to get something like free gold, people will use that wheter they like it or not. The potato-PC support in WT has already caused a lot of people leaving the game completely or just stick to AF or just steer off from GF RB and now dead SB, because you need to give up better graphics to be competitive. And what comes to me, I have spent a lot of money on my PC (mostly because HTC Vive development) and I really want to see my tanks rolling down the plains and destroying their enemies as eyecandy as possible (max settings + ReShade) and I’m quite fine (what a lot salty about how they have decided to implement planes) with GF AB because grass doesn’t matter so much when you don’t really need to aim.

So, thank you, Gaijin, as long as the devs are like that, you don’t get a dime from me even if I prefer your game over others because graphics. (Also I will still “cheat” their anti-cheat system to run ReShade just because I can and I know how. Stupid people thinking their PostFX settings are the best and lazy for not doing anti-cheat method that doesn’t know if the player is just injecting better graphics from open source project or acctually cheating.)
